My NASA Friend Found a Box of Film from Apollo 15 in His Desk Drawer

  1. I’ve always laughed at moon landing hoax theories, but the title of this story makes me wonder now. How plausible is it to “find” and old “box of film” that was shot on the moon a half century ago? Not buying it.

  2. I can confirm these are not spaceflight originals. Those are safely in our possession at Johnson Space Center. I’m the guy who does high res scanning of space flight originals. (I’m currently rescanning Apollo 17 B&W 70mm.) We don’t cut the original film. We splice the magazines into long rolls and keep them in a climate controlled, refrigerated vault when not in use.
These do appear to be good quality dupes though, possibly second or third generation.

  3. I enjoy a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but this is SO bogus. You can’t shoot the command module in orbit above the moon unless your in a separate rocket. One of the “negatives” is clearly dated Aug 1973. I doubt very much that any of the moon landings were shot on color film. And don’t even get me started on not cleaning out a drawer in more that 45 years.
